6 No-Sew DIY Clothes I Still Wear! (Do They Actually Last?)

When it comes to DIY fashion, there’s one question I don’t think gets asked nearly enough…

Does it actually last?

It’s easy to make something look great for a photo or a video, but what happens after it’s been worn, washed and lived in?

That’s exactly what I wanted to find out.

Instead of creating another no-sew compilation, I decided to revisit six of my favourite no-sew refashioning projects from different points in my wardrobe’s journey. Some are several years old, while others are much more recent, but every one has survived everyday life.

In this video, you’ll see how I transformed ordinary clothes using simple no-sew techniques like permanent marker, bleach, fabric dye, patches and a pair of scissors. Then I’ll show you how each project has held up over time and whether it’s still earning its place in my wardrobe.

Featured no-sew refashions

  • Customize a T-shirt with permanent marker
  • DIY bleach pen T-shirt design
  • Dye a plain T-shirt and add decorative patches
  • Distress jeans with bleach and a BBQ brush
  • Create a Flashdance-style sweatshirt
  • Turn an oversized T-shirt into a matching top and skirt

One of the biggest myths about DIY clothing is that it’s only good for one wear or one photo. My experience has been the complete opposite. Some of these refashions have become clothes I reach for again and again because they fit my style better than they did before.

That’s what refashioning has always been about for me. Not chasing trends. Not buying a whole new wardrobe.

Just looking at what you already own and asking, “What could this become?”

I’d love to know…

Which of these no-sew refashions is your favourite? Have you ever made a DIY that you’re still wearing years later? Let me know in the comments!
