Purging, packing, selling and donating in preparation for our big international relocation is well under way so I thought I’d better hurry up and share my upcycled DIY refashionista studio tour before it all gets dismantled and shipped off:
As with every single other room in the house the previous tenants had painted this long, narrow space in streaky, dark colours, blech! Clean white walls and semi-sheer white blinds really brightened up the tiny room!
Take a peek at the rest of my little studio space + get my decor tutes & thrifty storage ideas:
A bathroom towel bar hung on the wall behind the door acts as my handy space-saving rack for on-the-go projects and the old sturdy shelves that divided my office area and the kiddo’s room in our previous little apartment are fabulous for keeping my stash neatly organized. (I shall miss them dearly but hopefully will be able to find something similar in Canada)
Thrifted shelves painted white and hung upside down fit perfectly in small space between the door and window frames to store fabrics and my embellishing bits ‘n’ bobs. The window sill is perfect for my upcycled toilet roll photo holders + DIY pompom blooms!
(I most certainly will not miss that view or the creepy twitching curtains and peering eyes of the nosy neighbours)
That lovely clean white space + natural light from the window is my tiny little tutorial photo studio – proving that you don’t need a lot of money or fancy equipment to create great looking step-by-step DIYs!
My workspace office and stitching area lives at the end of the same white table. I painted that small thrifted shelf behind my computer white, added a curtain and it holds all of my threads and sewing gear + my upcycled vintage medical bag planter.

My sewing area is decorated with my funky embellished frames as well as the lovely fabric covered frames worthy of displaying my Grandma & Great Tante Uschi.
My kiddo’s art and crafty creations are displayed pretty much everywhere in my little studio – here’s how we made those adorable paper plate buttons!

I love your space–especially the shelving painted white and turned upside down–that whole corner is so pretty and fresh. It looks like it came straight out of a magazine page. And I love how you made such good use of the space. It’s very narrow but you can hardly tell with all the beautiful accents and white/light colors. It looks like a fantastic place to work and play!
Cheers Joy 😀 Fingers crossed I’ll be able to create an fab new studio in my new digs…
I’m sure there must be Ikeas in Canada to get the cube storage units – they are very useful, I have recently got a couple for my yarn! I love how efficiently you used such a narrow space and how cheerful it looks 🙂
Thanks very much 🙂 Similar shelves are absolutely available at Ikea in Canada however as an international move is incredibly costly and I’m not at all wealthy and on an extremely small budget I’ll be making due with whatever furniture I can (very) cheaply thrift, scavenge and create myself – it’s all part of the adventure of life 😉
