No Sew DIY Faux Flower Jacket Refashion

My first attempt to create something wearable out of faux blooms happened way back in the 80s when I dismally failed to make a floral top in high school. Unfortunately I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, zero crafty tools and, although my imagination was massive, a total lack of creative know-how.

Fortunately, after nearly 30 years, my skills have improved immensely and I was able to make my quirky teenage dream of stepping out looking like a blooming bouquet a reality:

Transform that frumpy coat hiding in your stash into a stunning statement piece with my No Sew DIY Faux Flower Jacket Refashion:

Grab a plain, light weight jacket – the lighter the better as the faux flowers can make the finished garment quite heavy.

Remove any unnecessary bits from the jacket (like those silly shoulder pads & fake pocket).

Snag a whole bunch of faux flowers and glue sticks.

I used nearly 300 flowers, over 400 petals and 70+ glue sticks to create my floral masterpiece!

Chop off any excess plastic from the back of your blooms – they need to lay as flat as possible for stability and comfort.

Decide how you’d like to arrange your flowers, plug in your glue gun and get sticking!

I used faux flowers on the body of my jacket and rows of petals on the sleeves for a funky contrast (+ it’s slightly more comfortable to wear and I have more freedom-of-movement for my arms as the glue holding the petals is in a pattern of thin stripes around the sleeves instead of the thick blobs that hold the flowers in place).

How gorgeous is my faux flower jacket?!

The back is just as awesome!

My fancy floral jacket even brightens up the horrible icy rain storms we’ve been having in Toronto and looks fab with my vintage polka dot dress + DIY painted shoes!

And just where did my fab wearable flowers make their debut?

On the garden special of Toronto’s weekday morning show Cityline with Tracy Moore!

Nigella Lawson was also there but I wasn’t able to snap a pic with her – I did score a copy of her new cookbook though!
