Vintage Dress to Top – a double refashion tutorial

Remember this oldie but goodie tutorial from 2014?

I rediscovered that lovely silk frock in my vintage dress collection & decided to update it again:

Check out how I refashioned a refashion and transformed it into a wardrobe fave once again!

The pattern on this vintage silk dress is divine & absolutely deserves another refashionista update!

To transform a dress into a top simply grab a shirt with your ideal length then flip the dress inside out, place the shirt on top with shoulder seams lined up then mark the length of the shirt + seam allowance on the dress.

My dress has a back zip so I hand stitched a new zipper stop before cutting through fabric.

Chop the dress at your mark.

My dress also has a lining that needed to be shorter than the top so I had to remove the bottom of the zipper to fold it under and hem.

Remember to hem lining fabric with seam facing the interior of the garment.

Give your it a nice hem & your fancy new top is done!

I wanted to add the pink trim to the bottom of my shirt so I chopped it off of the bottom of the leftover fabric.

Folded in the raw edges & pressed them in place with an iron.

Then stitched it over top of my hem.

An awesome update!

And here’s another successful vintage dress to top refashion:
