Jeans too long but fit perfectly in the waist?
Here’s how to shorten jeans (the refashionista way) and make them extra unique and just your style!
Grab those thrifted jeans that need shortening.
1. Snag a pair of jeans from your closet with a similar waist-height and your ideal length & place them on top of the too long jeans with the waistband & crotch lined up. 2. Mark the length. 3. Chop off the excess.
For a statement look repeat the steps above and raid your stash for some funky vintage trim.
1. Place the trim on top of the fabric with wrong sides facing and the raw edge of the fabric centered in the middle of the trim. 2. Stitch it on slowly, paying close attention to the bias binding position at all times. 3. As you near the starting point chop the bias binding to size + a centimeter then fold under the raw edge and finish stitching it on.
Flip the garment right side out and fold the trim over the raw denim edge to the front and stitch together – as my trim was quite thick I also sewed around bottom to help it lay flat.
