My Refashioned Refashionista Costume

Remember my quirky before & after refashionista costume?

DIY before and after Refashioinista costume tutorial

I finally got around to refashioning the “before” side making it a wearable addition to my vintage collection:

Vintage Dress refashion after

Here’s what I did:

Thrifted Vintage Lace Score

First, I fortuitously scored a bag of vintage lace at the charity shop for a mere €0.50, whoohoo!

Then I simply followed my original tutorial and repeated what I had done to create the “after” side of the dress. Once I had finished removing the sleeve and shortening the skirt I bound the armholes with some of that thrifted vintage lace, removed and replaced that silly plastic diamond embellishment under the bust line with a bit more lace and hand stitched on a couple more plastic spiders for a bit of whimsical fanciness!

It looks awesome with my button embellished cardi – I love it when refashions are magically made for each other!

  1. I love the refashion, but I’m terrified to look at it! It’s the…things you used as embellishments! I’m so phobic that even the sight of those things freaks me out. You’ve done a lovely job, but forgive me if I can’t look at it!🤤

    1. Cheers my dear 😀 I suffer from acrophobia (fear of heights) and get dizzy and disoriented sitting at the top of the slide at the park 😉

Love the spiders, and how your tights kinda have a spiderweb vibe.

    1. Hooray! My meticulous tight matching did not go unnoticed! 😀

  3. Love this and your big ball of fur! Have you done any doggy refashions? I think the colour really flatters you.

    1. Cheers Jade 😀 One of the very first posts I ever published was actually a doggie refashion: https://awesomesauceasshattery.com/2011/07/08/diy-doggie-pants/

I’ve upcycled a couple of sweaters into a fancy dog bed as well but as my Jack the Ripper isn’t at all a fan of wearing cute clothing that’s about all I can make for him 😉

  4. This is beautiful I love what you did to make this wearable. XOXO

    1. Thanks very much, I think the spiders really make the dress standout from the crowd! 😀
