Hawaiian Shirt Upsize + DIY Mask & Collar Necklace

Take a peek at how simple it is to upsize a button up shirt!

I discovered these 2 Hawaiian shirts at the bottom of my stash, unfortunately they were kid-sized, fortunately I came up with this funky refashionista fix:

First, I carefully chopped off the collar of my insert fabric shirt as close to the seam as possible.

Et voila! I had instantly created a quirky collar necklace!

I then chopped a length of fabric from the front of the shirt to create my upsizing side inserts for the other shirt.

I cut them to the approximate size needed + a bit of seam allowance.

Then carefully chopped out the side seams, including the sleeves, from the shirt to be upsized.

Pinned the inserts in place with the right sides of the fabric facing.

Stitched them together.

Then repeated the process on the other side of the shirt.

Hemmed up the raw edges.

Removed the pocket from the insert shirt.

And stitched it on under the existing pocket.

I added a couple of scraps to the shoulders of the shirt for some extra detail.

+ made a reversible face mask from the leftovers! (grab some fab free patterns here & here)

Upsizing side panels, new pocket, shoulder details, collar necklace + a fab facemask = an awesome upcycle!
