Even with my somewhat wonky seams the top of the waistband looks pretty darn awesome too!
(Once the panels were attached I simply folded over the raw edge of the fabric so it (mostly) aligned with the original waistband and stitched it all together to form a clean edge)
I left the original fringe of the fabric end to add a bit of extra detail to the bottom hems.
My groovy wrap bracelets are absolutely fabulous as well!
