How to patch a vintage wool jacket (+ washing tips too!)

Remember that gorgeous vintage jacket from this celeb copycat look?

Unfortunately the jacket had more than few damaged areas, fortunately I had the perfect solution lurking in my stash:

Take a peek at how to patch a vintage wool jacket (+ washing tips too!) and mend those cozy preloved items in a flash!

Here’s my 2 simple methods for cleaning wool garments at home:

1. Washing machine – Use the wool or delicate setting and wash in cold water with minimal detergent. Once the cycle is complete, reshape your wool garment and lay flat to dry.

2. Hand washing – Fill a sink or large container with enough cold water to cover your garment + a small amount of detergent. Submerge the item and gently swish it in the water. Leave to soak for 10 – 15 minutes then drain and rinse with cold water. Ring out the garment, reshape and lay flat to dry.

The jacket had so many small damaged areas I couldn’t stitch them all without destroying the look of it.

Luckily I had 2 huge iron on patches in my stash!

I scored mine from a crafty shop in Denmark but you can grab some similar ones right here!

I arranged and chopped the patches to fit over all of the damaged areas.

Then placed a cotton towel over the patches to protect the wool and carefully ironed them all on.

Success! That vintage wool jacket is now completely mended and totally amazing!
