#ThriftyThursday Copycat: Desperately Seeking Susan

Although I was too young to see Desperately Seeking Susan in the cinema when it was released in 1985, I manged to score a copy of it on VHS from the sale bin at a video store in the early 90’s. It’s not the greatest film ever made but it’s absolutely worth a few repeat viewings for the fabulous fashion and ridiculously dated one-liners!

It’s no surprise that much of the wardrobe for the film was refashioned from garments found in thrift shops and flea markets with inspiration from Madonna’s own closet!

Discover how to create your own iconic 80’s look from items you may already have around the house with this #ThriftyThursday Copycat: Desperately Seeking Susan!

I grabbed a plain blazer + the leftover fabric from this tutorial. Then measured the fabric into 3 equal parts, cut it into strips & stitched them all together to form a long enough piece to fit around the neckline of the blazer & then sewed it on!

I wasn’t happy with the result yet so I went ahead and stitched some vintage lace around the edge of the leopard print to finish it off!

I raided my closet & accessory stash for the rest of the outfit ingredients…
