What do you do when you discover a stunning but plain preloved satin jumpsuit that was unfortunately made for someone with glamazonian legs?
Find out how I quickly transformed that groovy yet crazy long & boring thrift score into the perfect length & style for myself with a simple satin jumpsuit refashion:
Seriously, how tall is the person this was made for? I’m 5’6″ (168cm) and had about 25cm of excess leg fabric even after tying the waist as high as humanly possible.
First I grabbed an 80’s jumpsuit from my collection with an acceptable length then hung them up together, lined up the shoulder seams and marked the shorter leg hem length with a pin.
Next, I folded the satin jumpsuit in half with the legs aligned, placed on a flat surface and chopped off the excess length leaving a generous seam allowance.
Then gave each chopped leg a nice clean hem.
As the jumpsuit was totally plain I went ahead a grabbed a couple of pretty patches from my stash.
Arranged them just below the shoulder area on each side.
Popped a cotton towel over the patches to protect the satin fabric & the patches themselves and then secured them on with a hot iron.
Et voila! The patches are fused to the satin and won’t be going anywhere soon.
(I wash delicate fabrics like satin in cold water and hang to dry so the patches should stay put however if they do start to come off I’ll simply add a few stitches to hold them in place.)
Yay! The jumpsuit is the perfect length and has a fab bit of colourful detail too!
Patches are absolutely one of the quickest and easiest ways to snazz up a garment and bags too:
