Attempting to create a Victorian inspired ensemble without looking over the top was quite a challenge but I think I just may have pulled it off using items I already had in my wardrobe!
What do you think?
Get the details behind my Victorian Chic outfit + the quick no-sew tute for creating a high collared blouse below:
Knit slouchy hat (handmade gift) €0 – Vintage Brooch (inherited) €0 – Vest (had for years) €0 – Vintage Blouse (thrifted) €1 – Lace Trimmed Skirt (thrifted) €1 – Tights (had for years) €0 – Chunky Heeled Shoes (had for years & refashioned) €0
Total cost: €2
To quickly create a Victorian high-necked collar simply button up your shirt, pop the collar up, fold the top half of the collar back down over itself (like a turtleneck) and secure in place with a vintage brooch.

I took a old mustard colored tablecloth, an old burgundy sheet, and some old jewelry and turned it into an authentic woman’s Viking costume for cheap. Then I thrifted a pair of Viking-like shoes. I also learned how to tablet weave to make a belt. (Then it looked so good I had to splurge and get some accoutrements to make it even more authentic. I’d better wear this costume more than one year from the money I spent on those extras! LOL. I promise, I’ll get my use out of it.)

Tee-hee, I really like it. Actually, lately I was contemplating of putting together some gear like that (must be a byproduct of my re-reading Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes, I guess.).
Thanx for sharing!
Cheers Claudia! Sherlock Holmes is most definitely some fab Victorian style inspiration 😉
So pretty, Sheri. But it makes you look like a serious grownup! 🙂
hahahahaha! ’tis definitely a not-my-usual-style outfit but it was fun to put together a completely different look for myself (I don’t think I would have done well in the daily heavy layers of fabrics, tight corsets & shoes of real Victorian times!) 😀
Amazing outfit!
Cheers Jade…I was a bit nervous to share what I’d come up with but I think it all works together pretty damn well! 😀
