A Nautical Thrifty Thursday

Even though the nautical trend seems to come back every summer I’ve never quite jumped aboard the preppy “ahoy there” look…for me, fashion inspired by the open water means a flannel lumberjack shirt, cutoffs & sneakers worn whilst fishing with grandpa in the old trout boat

Sunglasses (thrifted) €0.10  –  Vintage Pea Coat (thrifted) €3 – 1960’s Turtle Neck (thrifted) €1 – Crocheted Bracelet (handmade) €0 – Two-Tone Belt (inherited) €0 – Stripey Bag (handmade) €0  –  Jeans (thrifted & dyed) €2  – Sandals (had for years) €0

Total cost: €6.10

  1. love the white and red stripe, Sheri;)

    1. Thanks my lovely Nout…however I think you rock the nautical look soooo much better than I do! 🙂

      1. Aw you say that but I really liked your outfit. But alas, you’re much more of a boho-chic-lady than a nautical nymph.

  2. I saw your comment above to Alex about the yellow jeans (which look awesome with the red striped top) and you never cease to amaze me!

    1. Thanks Erika – yer makin’ blush again 😉

*always remember: if you spy something ya just gotta have for your wardrobe it’s always better to thrift something similar & refashion it into a unique piece that’s exactly what you want than to waste money buying it new & supporting the growing phenomenon of cheap, mass produced “fast fashion”.

  3. Ah yes, the stripes are so classic and perfect paired with the jeans!!

    1. yerp…Nautical (& prison costumes) seem to always involve horizontal stripes – an oh-so-boring pattern I loathe to wear, it’s so unflattering on me, blerg! 😉

      1. NOOO! It looks lovely on you 🙂

  4. Funky yellow pants! Love it!

    1. Cheers Megan…if I had to wear a nautical theme it needed to at least be bold & bright 😀

  5. Ahoy! Hahaha I love your nautical look – the pea coat and wedges are perfect!! Although, I think your plaid fishing look sounds pretty cool, too! 😉

    1. Thanks, that pea coat was a steal I got years ago in London… (This look had me stumped for a bit, I’m waaaay more comfortable in my quirky gear than any preppy look)

      1. Haha it is kinda hard to imagine you going “full preppy,” but I definitely think you made this look work for you!!

  6. Love how you mixed the khakis in!

    1. Thanks Alex 😀 *the pants are actually a pair of thrifted kids jeans that I bleached the hell out of and then dyed a lurvly “corn yellow” 😉

  7. Thanks for the warm welcome! I love your red striped top – and I’m quite jealous you could take your nautical pictures by actual water!!

    1. Thanks Beth & welcome aboard! *Ach…Don’t be jealous of that water at all, that’s the Spree river behind me & as it runs through the big dirty city of Berlin there’s a definite Eau de Ew wafting off of it 😉
