everything old is new again – DIY friendship pins

Anyone who grew up in the 80’s will recognize the…erm…new (but oh-so-retro) friendship bracelet trend that all of the stylish kids are sporting nowadays. When I was a lass, the amount of friendship bracelets gracing your arms directly equaled how cool you were…never being one to follow the herd (I was the opposite of cool in school), I had none…however, my tiny band of misfits created our own version of  ‘friendship accessories’ that totally kicked arsch:

Friendship (safety) Pins, baby!

Jump off the bracelet bandwagon & create some for your retro pals:

Grab some safety pins, beads, charms, etc…

my funky 1960’s pins were yet another Tante Uschi hand-me-down (score!)

unclasp the pin & slip a few beads onto the bar…

leave enough space at the end for easy closure & yer done!

Creating/receiving a name friendship pin is extra special, but unfortunately leaves little room for beads…

simply add a groovy charm to the spring end of the pin…coolness, eh?

…and just how did we non-conforming geeks wear our fancy pins?

On our shoes, of course!

I am thinking these would look cool on lace up boots…hey winter is on its way…

    1. Absolutely! I’ve been known to wear a few on my doc martens…lace up & biker boots are once again big this fall & these little pins are fab to funk ’em up! 😉

I have a pair of (almost) combat boots and a pair of high top hiking boots that are kind of plain (not to mention about 3 years old) that could use a little awesome-ness added

  2. Sheri, those pins are really cute, especially on shoes!!! I will pin and share them with around the world! 😉

    1. Grazie Anna! =O)

  3. Like King Solomon said, “There’s nothing new under the sun.” Those pins are awesome! I might just ‘dress’ up my chucks with a few. :p

    1. absolutely nothin’ new…styles n’ fads keep coming back every 20 years or so, which was fine when I was 20 & had no memory of ’em but now just makes me feel old vintage retro sigh… ;O)
