saved by a scarf…

April 12, 2013

Yay! I scored a fabulous blouse for €1 that actually buttoned up nicely over my bountiful bosom…

Boo! It had those ridiculously annoying chest pockets that do nothing but stretch wonkily over said bust…removing them resulted in this bit of foolishness:

…holes…permanent seam ghosts…weird snap indentations…an unmendable mess?

Nein, mein Lieblings…thanks to a brilliant idea from the completely marvelous Gypsy Sister I now have this piece of gloriousness:

Here’s how to fix your own in about 20 minutes…

thrilled to the gills & a squeee!

September 25, 2012

My glorious skirt, created by the ludicrously talented Lisa of Cucicucicoo, has arrived, bringing with it much joy & a brilliant surprise gift for my munchkin:

How funkilicously fabulous is that?! Words cannot express how absolutely awesome my new skirt is…I freaking lurv it!

Can you guess what genius lurks in this adorable kidlet roll that kept my skirt company on the exciting journey from Italy to Germany?

Meine Güte, ist das toll?! An über clever travel chalkboard complete with eraser & chalk! Ingenious!

…and here’s another look at my groovy skirt – paired with my multi-button-cuff sweater, tights, army boots & fabulous new birthday hat (courtesy of the munchkin)

A massive Grazie mille! to Lisa + a huge Canadian bear hug & sloppy wet German kiss!

*Pop over to Lisa’s blog for fab’ refashions, kidlet crafts, upcycling ideas, quirky humour and a generous dose of spicy Italian!

…and here’s what I created for her (& her scrumptiously adorable kidlets)

Feats of the week…

September 21, 2012

I’ve been an extremely busy little refashionista & my poor elderly sewing machine is letting me know, through an escalating series of groans & wheezes, that it’s time for a tune up…in the meantime here’s the cream of the creations crop from this week:

an old jersey bedsheet metamorphosed into a gorgeous butterfly top…

Oma’s embroidered (yet stained) tablecloth reconstructed into a groovy top for mommy & a funky embellishment for the munchkin’s bleached denim shirt…

an insanely boring maxidress & vintage table runner dyed, snipped & stitched into a fantastic farmer’s daughter fishtail dress…

(another) Oma tablecloth & a dowdy maxidress transformed into a swinging 60′s shift… currently on its way (along with a few super surprises) to the lovely Lisa of Cucicucicoo in exchange for one of her divine skirts!

(itsy) Bitsy Books…

July 24, 2012

Our local charity shop has a take-it-or-it-goes-in-the-rubbish box just inside the front door. I usually avoid digging through it because if the charity shop thinks something belongs in the bin, it probably does. However, on my last thrifting expedition I literally tripped over this beauty dangling over the edge of the box – most likely attempting an escape before it got dumped in the trash:

a groovy patchwork leather purse…just what I had been looking for to mate with the leftovers from my secret book safe to create…

…fanfreakingtastic mini book pendants!

Here’s how to make your own with stuff you already have in the house:

grody to groovy in 24 hours

December 28, 2011

This stained, chipped & just plain grotty commode was the first piece of furniture my husband bought -used…for a scant 5 Deutschmarks- when he left the nest 20 years ago…

It’s lived in university dorms, living rooms, kitchens & cellars and has housed everything from undies to pot…I discovered it cowering under our Xmas decoration boxes in the storage room, felt sorry for the poor thing, hauled it upstairs (to the “wtf’s?” of my hubby) & decided to give it a face lift.

here’s what I did:
