The Obi-Wan Kenobi Dress

…I procured a marvelous Moroccan bed sheet for €1. With the aid of my faithful stitch-droid I transformed it into a most excellent cowl dress fit for the fiercest female Jedi:
here’s how to make your own in just over an hour…
snag a funky bed sheet & grab a loose fitting dress
fold the bed sheet in half, right sides facing and lay the dress on top of it. *if your dress has sleeves tuck them in, you only need to be able to see where the armholes should be
trace around the dress & pin the front & back of the sheet together along the outline
remove the dress & cut out the traced shape *remember to chop out a bit of neckline on the front side of the tunic
zip over to your own stitch-droid & sew the shoulders & sides together, set aside for now
grab the remaining piece of bed sheet, decide the width & length you’d like your sleeves to be, double your fabric, keep the original sheet hem if possible & chop on through *to get my correct measurements, I measured the width of my completed armhole & from my shoulder to wrist – my folded fabric = 30cm x 55cm
use your already cut sleeve as a template for the other, keep them folded right sides together & head back to your machine
stitch the sides of each sleeve together to form 2 tubes
flip them right side out
pop them into your armholes, right sides facing & seams lined up
sew together & set aside your almost-cowl-dress
get the last piece of bed sheet, cut it into an even-ish 1m x 1m square, fold it in half right sides facing & sew the long sides together to form a tube (a smaller square= a smaller cowl)
turn the cowl-tube right side out, fold in the edges of one end & press with an iron
tuck the raw end into the pressed end
stitch together into a purty new cowl (you can use the exact same steps to create funky circle scarves)
pop the cowl into the neckline of the dress (you may have to gather the edge for a perfect fit)
stitch together - flip right side out & over-stitch the seam for extra strength
top stitch the brim of the cowl to give it a nice crisp edge
hem the bottom & your inter-galactic cowl dress is ready for action!
wear it as a cool over-sized cowl…
or flip it up into a rockin’ Jedi hood!

Looks great and I think you could make these in a number of fabrics and without sleeves in a winter fabric to wear as a jumper. I LOVE IT.

Danke Schoen Brenda! I totally agree! I absolutely plan to make more…I have a lovely vintage lace table cloth that I think would be fabulous for making a short sleeved version! There are so many variations to be done with this wonderfully simple idea! =O)
