Spooky season is here, and I’m bringing a few wardrobe favourites back to life! These three refashions can be worn as everyday outfits or styled into costumes with accessories and makeup. That means you get to enjoy your creations long after October 31.
In this video, I’m sharing my brand new lace skeleton shirt tutorial, plus my Pumpkin Spice hat + matching top and grown up Wednesday Addams jumpsuit. Have a rummage through your wardrobe and stash, then see what YOU can bring back to life!
Oversized Shirt to Lace Skeleton Top
An oversized button down gets a whole new personality with a cropped length, shorter sleeves and a lace rib cage plus a red heart for a cheeky finishing touch!
For an everyday punky look, I styled it with trousers, chains, a goth bracelet and boots. Then I switched to a lace trimmed skirt, skeleton tights and skull makeup to take it into costume territory. One shirt, two very different looks!
You can also use the cropping and sleeve-shortening ideas to give your own oversized shirt a shape you’ll actually enjoy wearing.
DIY Pumpkin Spice Top and Matching Hat
A tight orange dress becomes a statement hat and a matching top. Add a little spice and you’ve got my wearable take on Pumpkin Spice!
Wear the set with your favourite trousers or skirt for a colourful everyday outfit, then grab a microphone and trick or treat bucket when you want to bring the whole character together. Making use of the original garment for both pieces gives that fabric another chance to shine.
Grown Up Wednesday Addams Jumpsuit
A black jumpsuit gets an Addams-inspired makeover with white lace at the collar and cuffs + new vintage buttons.
The finished jumpsuit works beautifully as an everyday outfit. Add braids, dark lipstick, a felt hat and your best unimpressed expression, and grown up Wednesday is ready to make an appearance. Bonus points if you bring along a helpful Thing!
Refashion It, Style It, Wear It Again
Before buying something for a costume, take another look at the clothes and accessories you already own. A change of shape, a few added details or different styling might be all you need.
The best part? These creations can stay in your outfit rotation after spooky season. Use what you have to make what you want, then keep on wearing it!
