Refashioning is not only a completely ethical and sustainable way to create your own unique style but it’s also a magnificent method for adding those items you’ve been coveting to your wardrobe for a fraction of the cost (or no cost at all)!
I’d been on the lookout for a funky faux fur vest for ages but unfortunately my thrifting karma just wasn’t cooperating, fortunately a peek through my sweater stash revealed the perfect refashioning victim to transform into an easy DIY faux fur vest that’s reversible too!
Grab a faux fur lined cardigan or jacket – a button up style works best to create a reversible vest.
Carefully remove the sleeves. This has the added bonus of upsizing the armholes for an extra comfy fit!
Fold in the raw edges and stitch them closed with a blanket stitch:
Blanket Stitch: Traditionally used to reinforce the edge of blankets and other thick materials. This is an attractive, visible stitch that looks fab when used on fabric edges and hems.
Once the armholes are stitched up simply attach another set of buttons directly the behind the originals to make the vest reversible!
Yay! A cozy reversible vest created from bits I already had that’s perfect for those chilly fall days!
