How to mend a hole in a vintage dress

I scored a stunning swinging 60s dress that fit like a glove at a recent swap. Unfortunately it had a couple of holes on the tummy area, fortunately I was able to fix them up in no time with a few bits from my stash!

Check out how to mend a hole in a vintage dress with my super simple step by step tutorial and never leave a less than stellar retro find behind at the thrift shop again:

I grabbed an embroidery hoop + needle and darning thread. (any thick thread will do)

I decided to use my fave stitch and embroider a similar paisley pattern around and over the largest hole to mend and conceal it.

First, I stitched around the hole to prevent the edges from any further fraying.

Then stitched over the hole and filled in the paisley shape,

outlined the shape with a darker thread,

and filled in the middle of the paisley too!

I used a split stitch to mend the smaller hole with a basic heart shape.

Et voila! Visible mending that isn’t totally obvious.

My paisley shape isn’t perfect but it’ll do!

That dress is perfection with my fave red lipstick, yellow tights and vintage sandals!
