Make those outgrown sweatshirts fit a bit longer by transforming them into adorable sets perfect for layering on chilly days!
Snag my DIY upcycled sweatshirt skirt + legwarmers tutorial below – it’s a groovy refashion that works for all ages!
Grab a too small sweatshirt – this one had a few unsightly stains so I gave it bath in cherry red dye:
How gorgeous is that colour?! My top dye tips are right here.
Snag your scissors and a length of elastic that fits comfy around your waist too.
Chop the sweatshirt straight across directly under the arms.
Flip the bottom part inside out and fold over the raw edge using the width of the elastic as a guide.
Stitch the folded area down leaving a small space for adding the elastic to create a comfy waistband.
Pop a safety pin through the end of the elastic and feed it through the opening all the way around the waist and back out again. Stitch the ends of the elastic together, tuck them inside and then sew the opening closed.
Flip your adorable new skirt right side out!
Grab the chopped sweatshirt top, fold it evenly in half and cut off the sleeves.
You could leave the chopped sleeves as-is and wear them legwarmers but I wanted to add a bit of embellishment so I grabbed a length of lace.
Then stitched it all around the raw edges to complete the legwarmers!
