I scored a fantastically dowdy (and oh-so-creepy) vintage dress at a clothing swap last spring and then promptly tucked the eerie thing away until it was time to get creating for Halloween:

That ghostly victorian style mourning dress absolutely demanded to be taken home with me.
How fab is that collar?
Shoulder pads are not so fab so they were immediately chopped out!
The frumpy frock needed to be shortened so I grabbed a dress with my ideal length and placed on top with the shoulder seams lined up.
Then marked the length + a few centimetres seam allowance and chopped on through.
The front of the skirt had a tear in it so I handstitched it closed then stitched some vintage lace straight down from the waistline to the bottom of the skirt to cover the stitching.
I gave the skirt a lovely clean hem then added some more vintage lace to the hemline.
And my fab freebie spooky vintage Halloween dress was complete!
