How many of you can relate to that not-so-lovely string 8 year-old me has around my neck? As an 80’s latchkey kid I sported the popular key-on-a-string-so-it-doesn’t-get-lost necklace throughout elementary school – if only I knew then what I know now I could have been trendsetter:
Funky upcycled key necklaces are everywhere but only seem to be non-functioning accessories so I put on my refashionista cap and came up with a fab DIY Functional Key Necklace!
Raid your upcycling stash and make a few yourself:
I grabbed an old chain necklace, bits of beads, a vintage clip-on earring, my key and strong all-purpose glue.
I removed the back from the earring.
Attached the beads to the bottom of the earring.
Glued the fancy upcycled pendant to the head of the key.
Once completely dry I attached the necklace to the key (for extra security I secured the necklace through both the pendant and the key with a strong jump ring).
Awesome! The key is camouflaged yet still 100% functional!
*If the glue ever lets go my key will still be safely secured to the necklace thanks to that jump ring
Thankfully I grew into my teeth!
