My kiddo needed an eco-friendly sweater to wear to school for Earth Hour so I raided her room and my refashionista stash and got making!
It came out so well (& was so simple to create) I thought I’d share my quick and easy method so you can make your own version of my upcycled sweater for Earth Day – coming up on April 22!
Grab a kiddo top, some leftover bits of felt or fabric in planet Earth colours and a needle + embroidery thread. optional: mini hugging heart softie
Using a mug as guide, trace a circle on your planet Earth coloured felt.
Chop out the circle (or 2 if desired).
Cut out some land and cloud coloured bits from the remaining felt pieces and arrange on your Earth.
Hand sew them on with a simple yet sturdy stitch.
If you don’t have a heart softie go ahead and skip this step (or simply chop out a heart background for your earth).
Stitch the Earth to the centre of the heart.
Arrange on the top, stitch it on and enjoy your fab Earth-loving, eco-friendly statement top!
I’m pretty proud that my kiddo won a prize for her sweater from the EcoClub at her school.
What are you upcycling for Earth Day?
My tutorial index is chock full of inspiration!
How super cute is that! Of course she won a prize what a perfect representation for Earth Day. Did you leave the heart arms so they could be opened/closed or did you sew them together?
The heart’s arms have velcro on the hands so she can wear it open or “hugging” 😀
