I’ve been wanting to get some custom printed fabric for ages and after literally months of research, comparisons and too many choices I finally decided to trust ContradoUK with my groovy designs. (They also have a North American site but as my brain still thinks I’m in Europe I ordered from the original London location).
The ordering process was super simple and straight forward, I uploaded my design, chose my fabric, entered the size of material I wanted and was done! My fabric arrived in less than a week and is absolutely amazing:
As I went with a light crushed velour I was a bit concerned at how the print would come out but it’s truly awesome!

Grab a loose-fitting sleeveless top and enough groovy fabric to comfortably wrap around your torso.
Fold the fabric in half with right sides facing and lay it on a flat surface then place the top on the centre of the fabric.
Using the shape of the top as a guide pin the front and back of the fabric together then chop out the basic shape + a few centimetres of seam allowance.
Stitch the sides and shoulders of the pieces together – don’t stitch the armholes closed!
Fold the bottom edge under twice and give it a nice clean hem.
Hem up the armholes and neckline as well (or bind them with a bit of coordinating trim or ribbon).
Enjoy your fab new top!
My fab Confessions of a Refashionista top is perfect for layering with my button embellished sweater and destroyed jeans!
So, with so many fabric printing companies out there why exactly did I choose Contrado?
The company is privately owned and operated and produces everything sustainably and ethically on site in their one stop production facility that specialises in making custom products on demand. Contrado develops all of their products in-house and offers loads of fabrics, including organic and natural fibres!

I think Spoonflower makes custom fabric in the U.S. but I’m not sure how eco-friendly they are.
Contrado also has a U.S site that carries all of the same eco-friendly fabrics 😀 https://www.contrado.com/
Love the combo, that top and your fabric design is fantastic and what great velvet inspiration!
Thanks, it’s awesome to have my logo all over such fab fabric! 😀 I’m thinking of becoming one of their marketplace designers with some of the groovy designs I created for my previous business in Berlin – Mensch T’s: https://awesomesauceasshattery.com/2013/02/01/handmaking-a-mensch-t-in-berlin/
That’s so cool, I love that you made your own fabric! I have been wanting to try this out too, so thanks for the recommend. I have ordered a swatch pack 🙂
Fabulous! I’m going to have one sent out as well & am also thinking of having them print tags and labels for my creations that I have for sale 😉 https://awesomesauceasshattery.com/get-my-makes/
Congrats on your first printed fabric, Sheri! You can’t beat it, it’s so unique.
I like your idea of mixing ‘boring’ everyday pieces of clothing with a shiny colourful one, super combination with a little arty twist;)
Cheers!
Mixing styles and creating unique new gear is my jam! 😉
Yes, I noticed;) Very enjoyable!
