And just what does it mean to wear a safety pin?
“A safety pin. Something anyone can afford that will show you’re an ally. Stick on a jacket or a bag. It shows that you reject bigotry and violence.” (learn more here)
It’s not enough to simply wear the safety pin, your words, actions and behaviour must also reflect your solidarity and support for everyone forced into marginalized groups by the ridiculously backwards, ignorant and downright insane beliefs of those who have inexplicably risen to power in the U.S and their horror show of followers around the world.
If you see racism, xenophobia, misogyny, sexism, anti-LGBTQ and hateful assault and harassment of any kind then speak the f*ck up and try to put a stop to it or at the very least wander over, greet the person under attack as if you’ve known them for years and steer them away from the abusive situation as quickly as possible, you will not change the backwards mind of the attacker so don’t even try, the stressful conflict is simply not worth your energy. (I perfected my deflection technique and was targeted daily myself while living in Berlin where the consequences of appointing a psychotically xenophobic, small-minded, nationalistic, bigoted dictator are still a visible part of society over 70 years later)
