Where do you think our donated and discarded clothing ends up?
With Unravel, Meghna Gupta created an amazing film that follows literally tons of the tossed garments of the West on an overseas journey to India where garment recyclers turn the huge bales of cast-off clothes into yarn.
Watch this fantastic short documentary below:
This award winning short documentary shares an eye-opening look at this little known component of the global supply chain as well as insight into what the garment recyclers think about western society.
I urge you to not only watch this beautiful film in its entirety but also share it, there are many intriguing lessons to be learned when we see ourselves through another’s eyes:

Wow…very eye opening. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Thanks for sharing that video, it is very moving. At first it’s hard to see clothes being cut up in that way, but if the alternative is landfill or incineration then they’re doing a great job. To see their perspective on the waste that comes from my country, and on the kind of people we must be… well you just laugh and cry at the same time.
Kudos to you Sheri for taking a stand, and for encouraging others to do the same.
I just wish more people would realize that there is absolutely zero need to continue buying “new” when there is such an over abundance of fabulous, quality second hand goods to be thrifted, swapped, refashioned and upcycled…
