The Fugly Dress Refashion: A Simple DIY Cropped Blouse

Remember those fugly vintage dresses that had been languishing in my stash for far too long?

All of your fabulous refashionista brainstorming in the comments gave my imagination the kick it needed to finally transform them into wonderfully wearable wardrobe additions!

First up – that marvelously patterned maroon number in the middle:

Take a peek at how I took it from frumpy schoolmarm to happy hipster:

I flipped the dress inside out & carefully separated the top from the skirt.

Removed the neckline tie.

Tucked in the raw edges of the neckline & stitched them closed.

Hemmed up the bottom of the almost-done-blouse.

Folded the blouse & the neckline tie evenly in half & marked the center of each with a pin.

Unfolded them & placed the tie on top of the bottom of the blouse with right sides facing & the center pins lined up.

Stitched them together & noticed that my nail polish perfectly matched the colours of the fabric!

Zigzagged over the outside seam for extra strength.

And my groovy new blouse was ready for action!

Head over here to find out what I created with the rest of this dress + how I transformed the other fugly victim!

  3. Yeah! Sheri, this is a good one. A little to short for me, but the idea to switch the scarf (for some extra lenght) is way too cool 🙂

    1. I’m really pleased with the result…the length is a bit short 😉 but with high-waisted trousers it’s awesome!
