My Grandma’s kitchen always smelled wonderful. Freshly baked bread, hearty soups, roasted meats, cakes, muffins and cookies – there was always something on the go.
One of the best aromas to ever come from the oven was from Grandma’s oatmeal cookies. This simple to make treat would have my many cousins and I running through the house to “smell” the kitchen (& anxiously await the first batch)! Now when I make them my own munchkin comes running!
The Original Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookie recipe as written by Grandma
This is my version of the Oatmeal Cookie recipe. Not as sweet (or huge!) as Grandma’s but just as tasty!
Ingredients: 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup white sugar, 1 cup margarine, 2 eggs, 2 teaspoons of vanilla (= 1 small packet of vanilla sugar if you’re in Germany), 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 2 cups (gluten free) all-purpose flour, 2 cups rolled oats/oatmeal
Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips or 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Chuck it in all in a big bowl & mix together well.
Lightly form into balls & place on cookie sheet
Bake at 350 degrees fahrenheit – 180 celsius – gasmark 4 for 13 – 15 minutes until light golden brown
Enjoy!
