Create a spacious, adjustable strapped bag from a couple of thrifted table runners with my quick how-to:
Grab 2 groovy table runners, a thin belt & a zipper (for the interior pocket)
fold one end of your exterior table runner about 3/4 of the way up to the other end et voila…you now have the basic shape of your messenger bag complete with the top flap
*I chopped the fringe off of the inside end of mine for a cleaner-looking result
fold the second table runner in half, lay the exterior on top and use it as a template to chop out what will soon be the bag lining
slice out a pocket from your interior table runner scraps, open up your lining & arrange your pocket & zipper as desired
stitch it all together
*this was my first attempt at creating a zipped interior pocket and I’m pretty chuffed with the result – so no excuses: if I can do it, you can too!
fold your lining right sides facing, stitch the edges together & box the corners if desired
stitch the sides of your exterior together
chop the belt in half
fold your exterior with the wrong side facing out & attach a belt half to each side
pop the bag lining over the bottom of the bag exterior with wrong sides facing & stitch together
flip your fancy bag right side out…
and head out!
