What can you make with that big old lampshade you’ve had lurking in your storage room for far too long?
How about an Upcycled Lampshade Monster for Halloween?
For my monster I grabbed my big old lampshade, a thrifted grass skirt, round plastic tablecloth + a couple of giant googly eyes.
First, I secured a sturdy string for hanging around the shade’s bulb fitter.
Then folded the round tablecloth in half twice to form a triangle shape and snipped off the pointed tip.
Then unfolded the tablecloth and secured the center hole over top of the opening in the lampshade.
I gathered the length of the tablecloth around the lampshade and taped it together at the bottom.
I arranged the faux grass skirt over top of the lampshade.
Then stuck the top down with my hot glue gun and added some extra security with a layer of duct tape.
As the faux grass was very static-y and clinging to just about everything BUT the lampshade I went ahead and gathered and secured it all together around the bottom of the tablecloth.
Next came those giant googly eyes!
+ a couple of creepy eyes I had in my stash for the other side of the monster!
How groovy are those glow in the dark googlies?!
Those lizard-y cat eyes are pretty awesome too!
Adorable monster in the trees!
2019 update: The monster head grew a body and is now an adorable greeter for trick or treaters!
