A Summer Lace #ThriftyThursday

Berlin has been having a crazy chilly-humid-rainy-hot-stormy summer so attempting to dress for the weather is an impossible task. I had a lurvly little beat the heat ensemble all picked out for this Summer Lace Thrifty Thursday but alas the wind and gathering storm clouds forced me to quickly change into this casual, weather appropriate outfit to hit the organic market:

Another lovely outfit! Like you, am longing for some summer weather.

I just learned how to make a plain crochet bag like that – how did I not think to put fancy stuff on the sides?! (Lots of trims will be happening now!)

    1. Let’s hope a stormy summer means a warm autumn! 😉 I was pretty thrilled when I discovered that pretty handmade bag buried at the thrift shop…

are the details for todays project: Summer Lace #Thrifty Thursday in the Upfashioned Textiles book? I would be happy to order it/spend the $3 if they ARE )
I followed as many links as I could. But only Found directions for the altered blouse that had red embroidery trim..

    1. I created the lace top I am wearing above from a thrifted tablecloth using the exact same method that I used to make the white/red embroidery tablecloth top in the tutorial link – the tablecloth top tutorial is in my Upcycled Textiles book along with 12 other tutorials including a lace curtain top 😉

WOW! thanks so much for your quick response. i have read the tutorial for the white/red top, and i think i can follow that. but i’ll probably go ahead and order the book, too, for additional ideas. I’ve just finished 3 slouchy tote bags using a thrifted lace curtain for the outside, and a thrifted orange tablecloth for the inside/lining. Like you, I Love re-purposing fabric and up-cycling clothing. 🙂

Thanks again. I just ordered the book. 😉 Tried to follow three different links for price/ordering a copy of your “original” self-published book, but all three links reverted to Error messages on my I-Pad. just for curiosity, I will see if they work here, on my PC> Ciao

          1. I only have 2 copies left of my original printed version of CoaR: Life on the ZigZag, here’s a post with a detailed description, prices and purchasing links: https://awesomesauceasshattery.com/2015/04/10/your-last-chance-for-my-limited-edition/

I have to say, I love your site! I check in everyday, even if I don’t leave comments. It was the name of your site that caught my attention and the first time I saw your face, I had to call a friend and tell her to check you out since you look like Patricia Clarkson from Easy A! Your fashions are so fun and quirky! This is really making me want to take sewing classes and finally learn how to handle that sewing machine I’ve had for awhile! Thank you!

    1. Oh wow! Thank you so much Jill, you’ve made my week with your lovely comment! 😀 I’ve actually only been sewing for just over 4 years and am completely self-taught…go thread that sewing machine and dive right in! I started with some easy trouser shortening/skirt hemming projects but soon started experimenting with all of my old clothes and was addicted in no time 😉

You’ve got to be my sister under another mist-er . . . that is, a drizzly sporadic raincloud. Stay cool/warm/dry/remember the sunscreen 🙂

    1. hahahahaha! 😀 Yep, the weather this summer is definitely crazy – today is more like mid-October than late July, humph!
