As my Behind the Scenes of Blogging series is proving to be pretty darn popular I thought it was time to provide a perspective (or five) different from my own so I asked a few of my fellow bloggers from around the globe to share their thoughts about blogging:
Let’s see what they had to say…
°For me, it’s definitely the creating and sharing. I have a million ideas in my head and notebooks filled with project ideas so, of course, the actual creating part is what I love but my very favorite part is what comes after I hit publish. The feedback from people is what keeps me going. Sharing and connecting is the true essence of blogging for me. I thrive on seeing that I’ve inspired someone to be more creative, because I truly believe that creativity is so vital in our lives. Sadly, a lot of us have lost contact with it, so I’m more than happy if I re-spark someones creative fire.
°Expressing and sharing my passion in a creative writing context. Blogging is a creative act for me. I love it. I am not interested in advertising and making money from it.
°We love the planning of a project almost as much as we love the execution. Brain-storming, planning the project’s purpose & thinking about each step of creation in a user-friendly manner are all aspects that we get really excited about.
°Sharing the massive insides of my brain with real live humans who randomly come across the blog and friends who I don’t see often.
°Hmmm. This is a tough one. I would have to say marketing. I blog as a business, so it’s vital for me to find new audiences and grow my numbers and, although I love the results, I don’t like the process. There’s definitely a lot of pressure to be on top of your social media game all the time. Sometimes, I just don’t have that much to post about. Constantly scanning the web for possible advertising opportunities can get exhausting. If I could, I would hire a marketing/advertising manager ASAP!
°Nothing really. When I first started out I was a bit slow but you do get faster and more succinct over time. Although come to think of it the blog format drives me mad sometimes.
°As the photographer & stylist of our blog my least favorite aspect of blogging is any part of the writing process. I’m a visual person & much prefer capturing the project’s process with images over text.
°I’m the writer & project creator of our blog & the least appealing part of blogging for me is the social media promotion aspect. Part of blogging is not only creating good content, but also getting your work out there & getting it out there often. Having to constantly stay connected on Twitter & Instagram can be time-consuming, but it’s a necessary part of being an active internet presence.
°The logistics of sharing the blog. Promoting! Definitely.
°This might be surprising but I actually wish my readers would understand how much their feedback really matters, not only in a personal sense but also business-wise. A “like” & “share” on Facebook, a comment on my blog, a save on Bloglovin’ – these don’t take that much time, but are invaluable for a blogger. It’s the only way for us to know if our readers enjoy and appreciate what we publish. I think my readers do appreciate all the time and effort I put into my posts and I don’t think they have to understand all of the ins and outs of my job I certainly don’t understand theirs, but blogging is such a solitary act most of the time and I think every blogger needs that reciprocity from their readers. To know they are there, and that they actually do care.
°If anything we want our readers to have an understanding of our limitations, both time-wise & monetarily. Ideally each tutorial would have an unlimited budget, but sometimes we have to sub out materials for things we have on hand. If the blog continues to grow, our budget & schedule can expand & we can work towards that ideal, but in the meantime our readers have to be understanding of our limits.
°It’s not so much what my blog readers would understand, it’s those people in my circles who do not blog and look at me strangely when I try to explain what I do. I would love to know what they are really thinking of my blogging and lifestyle. At the moment I just make assumptions from the looks on their faces = mostly bland and no more questions after I tell them I have a blog.
°It comes naturally to me since I write about things I feel passionately about but it is a skill. The only thing that I would like to see happening around my blog is more engagement. I get some lovely comments from time to time, but for the most part, I don’t purposely end articles with a question to encourage engagement because it doesn’t always feel natural.
°Just that it is great to have a network of people like yourself who are so passionate about what they do. Who are generous and share. It makes social media a special place to be when you do not have a lot of people in real life who ‘get you’ and/or inspire you.
°Working on the blog has been a great experience & such a positive activity in our lives. It’s not always a walk in the park, but it has become a major factor in our lives & we couldn’t imagine having it any other way.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts gals!
Stay tuned for more of my backstage of blogging series and feel free to request a behind-the-scenes topic that you’d like to learn more about in the comments below.
It takes a lot of effort just to come up with the topics, and I wish readers would understand that!! Great post 🙂
A fabulous point Agy!
Sometimes I wonder if my creativity has an expiration date – thankfully I’ve filled enough “idea notebooks” to get me through quite a few future dry spells should they happen 😉
I wake up every morning and look for your new post! seriously!
Thanks for that Anne!
BTW my daughter’s middle name is Anne (with an ‘e’), after Anne of Green Gables of course 😉
So coool! <3 What a fun post and interesting that although we're all different we face quite similar challenges! 😀
Absolutely! + it appears that we all hope for more engagement/feedback from our readers and although blogging can be fun, it is still a lot of work to get a post ready to publish and I think we’d all love to be able to afford a social media manager to handle the drudgery of sharing once an article finally makes it online 😉
Loved everyone’s answers! Blogging IS fun, but it takes a lot of effort.
It certainly does Hanna – thanks so much again for taking part!
Yes, I agree Hanna. It’s fun but does take effort especially when there are competing demands. However, it is great to be in such like-minded company. Thank you Sheri for networking us together in such a creative way.
You’re very welcome Karen! 🙂
