A Grungy #ThriftyThursday

And the memories continue with yet another thrifty style theme plucked directly from my fashion past:

In the early 90’s (& beyond) I was heavily into the whole grunge style scene, along with that oh-so-cool Seattle Sound & the movie Singles, that alternative trend has stuck with me throughout the years. To this day most of my daily ensembles still consist of chunky-clunky-comfy boots paired with boldly patterned vintage dresses & cool tights (although nowadays I don’t tend to shred my legwear as I did in my younger years).

Hat (gift) €0 – Grandpa sweater (inherited & refashioned) €0 – Vintage Dress (thrifted & shortened) €1 – Tights (1982) €1 – Suede Lace-ups (thrifted years ago) €3

Total outfit cost: €5

Quick Tip: If you don’t have time to shrink the sides of a bit-too-big-dress (or just don’t want to) simply gather the excess fabric together in the centre of the back & pin with a funky brooch!

  1. That dress, those boots, the hat – I love everything about this look! You totally rock the grunge look! And I think I’m going to start using that brooch idea for anything that’s a little too big, so awesome to know! 🙂

  2. LOVE that dress – overall outfit is fab (and oh-so thrifty!) 🙂

  3. Gah I always love what you come up with and your facial expressions too 🙂 The brooch idea truly is genius!

  4. Ok first of all, LOVE this look. Second, would love even more to see you rockin some shredded legwear lol. And THIRD – you are a genius, literally, a genius. Pinning back the sides with a fun brooch is the perfect was to make something fit better (sometimes sewing it can be difficult for me), will definitely be trying it out!

    1. Cheers Miche…altho at 40 I’m pretty sure my days of shredded leg gear are over I’m afraid 😉

*I’ve only been sewing for about 3 years so that brooch trick, a lil’ something my Grandma showed me when I was a mere lassie, was my go to clothing-shrinker for years! – even with my bit of sewing talent it’s still an awesome quick fix 😀

  5. Cute! I love your dress!
