I love love love jumpsuits but after my rather epic DIY jumpsuit fail last year I stuck to my thrifting karma to add to my collection.
Until this thrifty online score arrived:
I’m not exactly sure who this was made for but they most certainly had a much shorter torso than I!
After a bit of a think I came up with a quick fix that transformed that too tight crotch hugger into a loose & comfy all-in-one!
Here’s what I did to create A Quick Refashioned Jumpsuit Upsize :
I grabbed the jumpsuit, a t-shirt a couple of sizes too big for me, a zipper and some coordinating embroidered ribbon.
Arranged the zipper on the outside of the t-shirt and pinned it in place.
Stitched it on.
Cut a piece of the embroidered ribbon to size and placed it over the sides of the zipper for extra fanciness.
Stitched it on – successfully using my zipper foot for the first time in my 4-ish years of sewing!
Repeated with the other side of the zipper.
Then flipped the t-shirt inside out and carefully chopped out the fabric directly behind the zipper teeth.
Next, I snagged that jumpsuit and cut off that too short top as close to the elastic waist as possible.
Popped the t-shirt over the jumpsuit bottom with right sides facing and side seams aligned and pinned together.
Then zigzagged them together stretching the elastic waist as I stitched to match up with the length of the hem of the t-shirt.
Zigzagged over that outside seam for extra strength.
I’m quite positive that this technique would also work brilliantly to create a jumpsuit from a pair of comfy elastic or drawstring waist pants or sweats and a t-shirt!
And my now loose and lovely jumpsuit was ready for some interpretive dancing and singing with the kiddo!
(I am most definitely that weird mommy in the park that other kids flock to but the parents avoid and whisper about)
