Follow my adventures in moving & keep in touch on facebook, instagram, twitter & tumblr.

Our new digs are full of potential so roll up your sleeves, get your imagination in gear & join me on a “before” tour of our soon-to-be stylish new home:

Welcome to our Remise (ree-mee-zay): an early 1900’s farm building that has been converted to a small 2 level house with a yard. An amazingly fortuitous find in big city Berlin & oh-so-conveniently located behind our apartment building - this pic was snapped from our balcony = a pretty convenient move – although trekking up & down the 62 steps lugging boxes & furniture will definitely result in some sore old muscles for a few days!

**the following interior photos were all taken when we first viewed the property and contain the filth, dreck, wall paint & remaining furnishings of the former tenants**

The front foyer is tiny yet functional & just one of the many unfortunate colours the previous renters chose to decorate with

The main floor bathroom with stand-up shower.

All of the scuzzy wooden furnishings will be removed & replaced with DIY goodness

The small room located beside the front foyer.

Walls will be painted gleaming white, the floor replaced with walnut laminate & it will eventually be our guest room

The living room.

The former tenants had divided it into 2 narrow rooms…we shall be knocking out the (uneven) wall, replacing the floor & transforming it back into one large open plan living/dining room.

The kitchen…there are no words.

Check out my thriftastic vintage kitchen furniture here and let your imagination take flight!

Moving on to the second floor with a fancy curving staircase that luckily needs nothing but a good cleaning!

The master bedroom.

Carpet will be torn up and oh so much more!

The upstairs bathroom.

You don’t even wanna know what I saw in that toilet.

My future studio – narrow but nice with 3 large windows!

It’ll be so much lighter & brighter with clean white walls!

The munchkin’s room…in desperate need of a paint job & her fabulous decor!

The attic – great for storage but unfortunately too musty & damp for much else.

and last but certainly not least: the (crazy overgrown) yard…a huge job to be thoroughly tackled in the spring.

Happiness is…Vintage Furniture!

We’re finally moving into an actual (little yet lovely) house with a yard and everything! No small feat to find in the crowded metropolis of Berlin! This one literally fell into our laps and is located - get this - behind our current apartment building in the “Remise”…

and just what the heck is a Remise? (pronounced ree-mee-zay)

A fabulous old converted farm building!

Since discovering our soon-to-be-new-home I’ve been stalking the kleinanzeigen (online classifieds) for thrifty yet awesome home furnishings and am delighted to share the quirktastic vintage treasures that I scored for my new kitchen:

erm, yeah…I forgot to mention that our new home, although full of potential, requires quite a bit of work to transform it into the spectacular space I envision it to be - this DIY diva is definitely up for the challenge!

How fabulous is that turn of the century kitchen buffet? Some elbow grease & creativity will have it back to its former glory in no time!

I was floored by the awesomeness of this old hideaway wash basin table (it shall soon be transformed into my new kitchen island) + the lovely seller gave us that 1922 typewriter as a “little bonus” – Wheeee!

all this beauty needs is a good old-fashioned scrubbing!

and last but certainly not least my 41st birthday gift to myself:

a gorgeously restored sideboard to complete my vintage kitchen

it even has most of the original manufacturer’s label from 1938 which thrills me to no end!

and just how much did all of these vintage treasures cost?

a mere €230! She shoots she scores!

Fresh Ink…

Here’s a little bit o’ trivia you may not know about me: I have tattoos…and love ‘em!

The latest ink to invade my skin? This extra special slice of fabulousness:

magnificent!

And just who was the talented artiste who wielded the needle?

Marvelous Mitja from Tätowierkult. I cannot recommend him enough! Not only is he a fantastic tattoo artist but he also speaks excellent English & has a groovy sense of humour, I immediately felt comfortable & at ease in his hygienic studio, an absolute must when you’re entrusting your skin to someone! If you’re in Berlin & looking for some new ink drop by Tätowierkult in Köpenick & ask for Mitja, you’ll be glad you did! Here’s another look at his awesome work:

beautiful!

Rappelzappel für die Kleinen

FEZ-Berlin Kinder-, Jugend- und Familienzentrum is the largest Family Center in Europe. Located on over 100 hectares of land, FEZ has too many (free) play grounds to count, a mini railway, theater, cinema, swimming pool(s), space centre, museums and loads more all geared for kids from tot to teen. As we’re lucky enough to live nearby it’s a frequent stop for us to let the kidlet run her batteries down.

The indoor Spielecke (play corner) is free of charge & was created especially for munchkins up to age 4.
