Fresh Ink…

Here’s a little bit o’ trivia you may not know about me: I have tattoos…and love ‘em!

The latest ink to invade my skin? This extra special slice of fabulousness:

magnificent!

And just who was the talented artiste who wielded the needle?

Marvelous Mitja from Tätowierkult. I cannot recommend him enough! Not only is he a fantastic tattoo artist but he also speaks excellent English & has a groovy sense of humour, I immediately felt comfortable & at ease in his hygienic studio, an absolute must when you’re entrusting your skin to someone! If you’re in Berlin & looking for some new ink drop by Tätowierkult in Köpenick & ask for Mitja, you’ll be glad you did! Here’s another look at his awesome work:

Rappelzappel für die Kleinen

FEZ-Berlin Kinder-, Jugend- und Familienzentrum is the largest Family Center in Europe. Located on over 100 hectares of land, FEZ has too many (free) play grounds to count, a mini railway, theater, cinema, swimming pool(s), space centre, museums and loads more all geared for kids from tot to teen. As we’re lucky enough to live nearby it’s a frequent stop for us to let the kidlet run her batteries down.

The indoor Spielecke (play corner) is free of charge & was created especially for munchkins up to age 4.

Der Wuhletal-Wanderweg

The Wuhletal-Wanderweg (walking trail) is over 15kms of re-naturized pathways in East Berlin. Starting from S-Bahnhof Ahrensfelde and ending at S-Bahnhof Köpenick the Wuhletal-Wanderweg welcomes walkers, joggers, cyclists & is also dog-friendly! Here’s a quick peek at the small section we frequent:

a little park for little monkeys

Much to our chagrin (& terror), our munchkin has developed into a fearless daredevil and has even begun building her own climbing-towers out of anything her little arms can lift - how do toddlers manage to make (& climb) such heart attack inducing creations in the 3 seconds your back is turned?? Thankfully we discovered a local park tailor made for our little monkey:

make a (lil’) splash

The weather is cooling off and that means it’s time to seek out warm & toasty indoor activities for the munchkin to enjoy. One of our favourites? Babyschwimmen in der Kleine Schwimmhalle Wuhlheide (‘babyswimming in the Wuhlheide forest‘s little swimming pool’)

Don’t let the name fool you – the pool(s) may be small but what they lack in size is more than made up for by the friendly, informative staff and delightful water toys/games provided for the kidlets…

raspberry frog…?

There’s loads of blogs & sites on the internet reviewing the many things to do, see & visit in Berlin. Helpful as they may be for foreigners living in the west of the city, they don’t seem to venture too far into East Berlin …where we are…and so in an effort to help other mommys & daddys who have chosen to live in the fabulously green,  relatively quiet, river-at-your-doorstep, reasonably rented, up & coming areas of East Berlin I’ll be sharing our fantastic (& affordable) family friendly places to go…

First up: Himbeerfrosch Familien- & Spielcafé (Raspberry Frog Family Play Cafe)

Berlin: The 21st most liveable city…?

When the fabulous Agy of Green Issues wrote about the world’s most liveable cities  I was pleasantly surprised to see Berlin on the list…even more surprising? It was ranked 21 out 50! The best part? She wanted to know exactly what made these cities so “liveable” and I got to write about Berlin!

A Quiet New Years Eve…

January 2, 2012

As it’s our first year as mommy & daddy we decided to forego our usual Silvester Bash and spend a quiet night at home welcoming the new year with our little mouse…it didn’t quite happen that way…

…from 7pm – 3am we had our very own crashbangshakethewindows light show presented in surround sound, both in front and behind our building. erm…yay?
