Upcycled DIY Zero Waste Handbag Kit

Trying to live sustainably can be a quite a challenge in a throwaway society. I seem to be given disposible, Earth-damaging items everywhere I go and am actively encouraged to simply toss those plastic bags, utensils and cups in the trash – it’s incredibly frustrating that N. America is so far behind Europe when it comes to eco-friendly practices!

Pulling out my upcycled DIY zero waste handbag kit was not at all strange in the EU and I even received discounts from local shops and cafes for bringing my own reusable gear.

If more people put together and used their own eco-friendly upcycled DIY zero waste handbag kit it would go a very long way to reducing the extreme amount of so-called disposible paper and plastic waste that ends up polluting so much of our planet.

Here’s how to create your very own eco-friendly, portable zero waste kit from items you may already have around the house!

My personal zero waste handbag kit contains: my DIY foldable shopping bag – collapsible cup – reusable drinking straw – chopsticks + case and an upcycled vintage hankie napkin

As I spent several years living and working in Tokyo I’m pretty darn adept at eating just about anything with chopsticks and I’ve actually had that set since I bought it during my very first week in Japan over 22 years ago! Now that’s sustainability in action!

If you’re not thrilled with chopsticks just add a spoon into your zero waste kit (or a handy spork if you have one).

Once you have all of your zero waste on-the-go bits collected simply roll the utensils up in the napkin.

Pop everything into your foldable shopping bag and put in your handbag until needed!

This little kit is not only fab for your sustainable lifestyle but also for any occasion where you (or your kiddo) may need a napkin, cup, bag or utensil while out and about.
