Upcycled DIY Fanny Pack Belt Bag

Thrift shops, swaps, garage sales (and maybe even your own closet) are bursting with belts and little zippered pouches so why not combine them into groovy new handsfree totable gear?

Sift through your wardrobe, put on your refashionista cap and get making my upcycled DIY fanny pack belt bag!

Grab a small(ish) bag or pouch, a groovy belt, length of sturdy chain and coordinating thread + a needle.

My bag was missing the original strap but still had the fab metal rings where the strap would have been attached making this project much easier than I had originally thought it would be, yay!

Decide where you’d like your bag to be on the belt. (I centered mine between those funky metal details)

Attach an even length of chain to each strap ring.

-or- stitch 2 pieces of chain to one side of the bag -or- poke holes in the top of the bag & loop the chains through -or- attach the chains through the sturdy thread along the existing top stitching

Securely handstitch the chains to the belt at your desired position.

My bag had another ring at one end so I went through my stash of broken jewellery and put together a simple charm detail and attached it.

Handsfree awesomeness!

  1. This gives the fanny pack an entire different look! I love it!

    1. Fanny packs are fabulous but definitely lacking in style – creating your own is a snap and oh-so-stylish too! 😀
