Help me refashion this dress for #ThriftyThursday

After the votes had been tallied this week’s theme turned out to be Jungle Jane, unfortunately it’s full on wet and snowy winter in Toronto so a photo shoot in a jungle-y setting was a no go, fortunately I have a jungle-y print dress my stash awaiting a refashion:

Take a closer look at that vintage beauty and help me refashion this dress for #ThriftyThursday!

The pattern of this 70’s polyester dress is gorgeous but the fit and style are in desperate need of a refashionista transformation!

That collar is wickedly wide!

I did try my quick and easy no sew dress refashion technique but it just didn’t look right or feel at all comfortable.

How would YOU refashion this pretty patterned vintage frock?

Let me know your refashionista thoughts in the comments below and then snag some thrifty inspiration (+ join up & share your love of second hand) over in my Gone Thrifting facebook group!

Here’s how I finally refashioned that fabulously printed dress:

I think it wants to be a shirt. Like the idea of either a smaller collar or removing it and making a V-neck.

    1. I’m mulling over the idea of a shirt and shorts or skirt combo – split it up into 2 wearable mix and match pieces (with still loads of fabric leftover to embellish something else 😉 )

  2. I’d get rid of the collar, just a V neck with facing, and cap sleeves. Then take the body in and leave slightly A line skirt. Great print!

    1. I’m really torn about the collar, while I love the vintage-ness of it, it really is massively wide 😉

Love the print! I like the idea of making it into a sheath dress, perhaps after making the collar smaller you could add in some cuffs on the sleeves? If it was mine, I would make it into a blouse with cuffed sleeve, stand up collar and use the rest of fabric for an appliqué on a jean jacket…what fun!

    1. Love love love the cuffed sleeves idea! (& a fab use for any scraps too! cheers!)

How about removing or making the collar smaller, and shape the dress like a sheath, and shorten it?

    1. Ooooh! That would be pretty! 😀
