What would I tell that future DIY diva above?

Trust your instincts about everything, they are 99.9% correct – Love and care for yourself and your own health & happiness above all else (until your hilarious munchkin arrives, then she can have the top spot as long as you continue to look after yourself as well.) – Never let anyone shame you out of your ceaseless positive attitude, quirky humour and desire to achieve your dreams, these are the qualities that will lead you all over the world and see you through when faced with adversity

+ loads and loads more words of wisdom I could share with little Sheri!

Happy Belated Birthday! I loved seeing your studio and where you store your finished items too. I have an even smaller sewing room than you and I am not feeling so bad about it now. We have to move soon though and there is not much available so I may not get a sewing room this time round but more of a sewing nook. I will def be using some of your storage ideas if this is the case.

It’s so cool that you have been sewing for 4 years with no lessons. I have been sewing a year and a half, self taught with a once a month club where I can learn new things and I am already so much better than when I started. Can’t wait to see what I will be making in a year or so.
Your blog is a great inspiration, thanks for doing it.

I loved that red dress as it is one of my favourite vintage styles. I think those striped sleeves would work. I still struggle with armholes after getting rid of the sleeves. Maybe I can get some good tips about it at my next club.

    1. Thanks Emma 😀 I’m hoping wherever I live next will have a bigger and brighter area for my studio, my actual area of the room is only about 2m x 3m which makes it more than a bit tight trying to work around the furniture when shooting videos or steps for larger projects.

I’m leaning towards adding the stripey sleeves as I really like a good contrast + they’ll make the dress extra unique 😉

Happy Birthday (belatedly)! Thank you so much for creating wonderful refashioning tutorials that are accessible even for novices like myself. I hope you had a wonderful day 🙂

I think the dress would also look good with a dark blue sleeve (primary colors for the win!).

    1. Thank YOU for the fabulous bday cheer Emily 😀 I firmly believe that if I could teach myself to sew and the basics to get started with upcycling DIYs then anyone can! *I’m pretty sure my background in performing and teaching comes in handy when creating my easy to follow projects & tutes 😉

  3. Happy birthday and I loved seeing your studio, so beautifully organised – wish I could manage anything close to that! Good luck with the move 🙂

    1. Thanks for the bday wishes 🙂 Anyone (& I do mean anyone) can unleash their own organizational prowess, all it takes is the will to tidy up and a few empty shelves + storage boxes, bins or baskets…

Happy Birthday, Sheri! Great video! My fingers are crossed that your future plans come to spectacular fruition. As to the dress? I’m with Karen Ellis – the sleeves are nice, but they compete with the collar for focal point.

    1. Thanks Meg, I’m still on the fence about the sleeves for the dress or not…hmmmm…

I’m crazy busy trying to hustle up the right opportunity, location (and funds) to relocate (+ deal with the gross legalities of trying to leave this country with my kiddo) while still working my arse off to keep everything updated and running smoothly online…aaaargh! 😀

Great video and Happy Birthday! Thanks for sharing 😀

    1. Cheers Emily…birthdays are definitely for sharing! 😀

Happy Birthday Sheri! You are fabulous! I can’t believe they said you were too happy and positive for German TV! WTH? Have a wonderful day!

    1. Thanks Robin!
Believe it or not I’ve actually had a few camera crews and interviewers in my house/studio and meetings with production companies here and honestly every time I have been told the same things “too happy” & “too enthusiastic” for German TV…but if you’ve never seen German TV, well, it really is dull with zero personality or innovation and rather sour-faced presenters, hosts, actors and guests…so I try to see not fitting into the typical German TV “promi” (star) mould as a compliment 😀

Happy Birthday! To the coolest DIY Guru. ? Thank you for sharing your birthday wisdom today. I was feeling down today, but your words made me feel better about life and getting older (42 going 43). Have a happiest, brightest, and most fantastic day with your love ones. -Tara

    1. Cheers Tara! It’s my 42nd birthday today so you’re in groovy age company! 😀 Getting older is awesome as it means another year to learn, grow and (hopefully) make a difference in this old world 😉

  8. Thank you so much for sharing your special day with me. Many Happy Returns of the Day Sheri. It was great to have a sticky beak in your studio and wardrobe as requested.

As for your little red dress, I would just use 1/2 inch cotton bias binding in red [same colour as your dress] sew it around the sleeves and turn it inside and sew it down so that it is not seen on the outside. Very easy and simple, keeping the collar as the feature.

    1. Thanks for the bday wishes and dress help Karen! Hopefully my next studio/work space will be even better than this one 😀

  9. Happy birthday, Sheri!! 🙂 Lisa
