My Thrifty Spruced Up Stairway & Landing

My humble home tour continues with a peek at my thrifty spruced up stairway and landing:

Stairway before & after

Let’s head upstairs…

This dark & dingy staircase was immensely improved with a good scrub and some shiny wood polish. The dull walls were refreshed with a few coats of brilliant white and we installed soft wall mounted lights at both the top and bottom of the stairs.

A few fabulous mommy, munchkin & doggie photos in frames and clothespinned to a bit of crocheted chain create a cozy display of lurv and my 1922 typewriter fits perfectly in the tiny alcove above the stairs.

A DIY kimono scrap wall hanging is the perfect pretty filler for the awkward narrow space between the bedroom & bathroom doors at the top of the stairs.

My yukata and another upcycled wall hanging look rather awesome on the triangular-shaped wall above the staircase.

A peek from the other end of the landing reveals my quick fix for that dangerously inviting open alcove above the stairs: a vintage metal serving cart (thrifted for only €5!) that is too heavy & unmanageable for a munchkin to move.

Here’s a closer look at that wall collage just outside of my little studio at the end of the landing.

    Love. It. All. ♥️

    1. Cheers Kathy, the stairway and landing are much narrower & smaller than the “panorama” photos lead you to believe 😉 creating a warm/homey wander upstairs was a bit of a challenge but I think I pulled it off 😀

I love your house! Everything looks so coordinated – did you have to do much to the picture frames to get them to look so good together?

This reminds me – I have been wondering whether to ask you whether you had any more advice on being organised and seeing ideas through to completion? You did that great post on organising blogging a little while back. I have individual ideas which are fine, but I can’t seem to ‘complete’ my home decorating, in the way that you have. (You’re clearly such an organised person, any general advice would be gratefully received too!)

    1. All of the frames are Ikea so they all matched up excellently with a coat of black paint – living in a city with 4(!) Ikeas means there are always Ikea frames & decor bits at the thrift shop 😉

As for as my organizing skills…I’ve been rather fastidious since I was a wee lassie and am quite fanatical obsessive particular about keeping an orderly yet cozy environment. I think it’s partly because I work from home so having a place for everything & everything in its place (as well as a schedule) means I don’t get distracted with household projects during my working hours and also, as my personal life is so chaotic & disordered, having an organized home and work space allows me to (mostly) keep on top of everything that needs to be done in a day without going completely round the bend.
