Colour Me Loved

I am completely overwhelmed by the enormous heartfelt response to my Behind My Smiles post. Your supportive comments, messages and e-mails have absolutely brought back some of the colour and energy that had been drained by the struggles I’m experiencing in my “real life”.

colour me happy

I have been putting my renewed energy to good use and have been hard at work trying to make connections and build a network that will allow me to create the most reliable and achievable solution possible at this time.

So many of the comments, messages and e-mails I have gotten since my post was published have been thanking me for letting them know that they are not alone in their own struggles and that my hard work, humour and tenacious attitude on my blog has kept them going and brightened their days. This and the realization that although I may be isolated I am not alone has lifted my spirits and given me back some of the energy I had lost.

Pardon the extreme cheeziness but the theme song to this classic 80’s tear-jerker pretty much sums it all up:

I am grateful for all of your kind thoughts and have come up with a few ideas that, while not permanent solutions, might just provide enough of a cushion to allow us to start fresh in a healthy environment.

  1. I finally get the time to pop over and comment. Hugs to you, and well done with stepping out with your ebooks! Hey, I remember when you had your first one a couple of years back 🙂

    1. Yup, I’ve now single handedly designed, written, created & published 10 upcycled DIY tutorial books – an awful lot of work with very little return but I’ll keep going until I reach my goal of being published professionally!

I only have one copy left of my original (2012) printed Life on the ZigZag book: http://refashionista.de/books.html

My kindle books are bestsellers but Amazon gets the bulk of the profits (humph!): https://awesomesauceasshattery.com/confessions-of-a-refashionista/

My CoaR e-book collection downloads cost less than a latte! 😀 https://awesomesauceasshattery.com/my-coar-series-for-3/

  2. Have you heard of Examiner.com? They are looking for people to write articles about any type of knowledge they have. They don’t want a blog feel and the articles are fairly short. You could check it out. Or eHow, do they pay for tutorials? I follow another blogger who sends her tutorials over there. I also think advertising here would be fine. I’ll check you out on LinkedIn and see if I can think of anything for you. Keep being awesome. I’ve been wanting your books for awhile, I think now might be the time 🙂

    1. Thanks for the tip Christina…I have looked into several “content farm” sites but unfortunately the pay rates are scandalously low and the work load/time commitment high (ranging from less than $0.01/page view to only $25 for accepted articles + paypal & currency conversion fees) additionally many of these sites require writers to sign over complete and total copyrights to their submitted work – which means the sites own everything and can do whatever they want with it, including selling & re-selling the articles for profit, a great deal for the site but terrible for the writer. 🙁

So glad to give anything back – your blog is one of my (few) precious happy places. The fact that you’re a real human being, and that you have shared that, is a shining light.

Forgive me if this is a dumb suggestion, I know I’m out of touch! Your talents seem obvious for some kind of paid journalism; tv, written or online. Plus, I don’t think anyone would mind if your blog carried advertising, if it would help with the income (don’t tell the advertisers, but we’re all pretty good at tuning it out!) You’re also excellent at motivating and inspiring people; have you looked at motivational speaking for business, as well as training etc. I worked for a financial firm and we had a rower (as in boats and oars) come to speak about self-motivation etc – just to illustrate that it doesn’t have to be directly relevant. Your general passion and your ethics would benefit a lot of different people and businesses. Hope this doesn’t sound too silly, just trying to ‘think outside the box’.

    With love.

    1. Cheers Alice (there are no dumb suggestions 🙂 )

I am in whole hearted agreement with you and, believe it or not, have actually been sending my TV show/web series pitch to production companies & TV channels for the past year and have also been trying to find a good literary agent/publisher to represent me and get my CoaR DIY Lifestyle book
      series into print.

I have gotten loads of positive feedback but unfortunately no one has yet been willing to take me on & help me take my ethical style message and talents to the next level. Thankfully the internet allows me to research & reach out and try to network with the “right” people, I just haven’t managed to connect with them yet…

My training, experience & expertise are in Fine Arts, Education & Design – check out my LinkedIn profile for all the info.

Confessions of a Refashionista is my groovy home online where I can share my knowledge and experience with an ever expanding audience, connect with like-minded individuals + it’s a fantastic tool to use as a showcase for my talents on the road to achieving my amibitions – soooo much better than the giant portfolio & show reel video I lugged to auditions in the 90’s. 😀

I know this has nothing to do with refashionista stuff, but what about just being a tv talk show host? Have you ever considered it? I know nothing about that job market, not how to get it, but it strikes me that you would be a perfect candidate for that kind of thing.

        1. I’ve actually been in and around the entertainment world for 20+ years, unfortunately I am most definitely not in the right place to be furthering my career in the biz (I did make a couple of connections here that resulted in on-camera productions which unfortunately were never used as apparently I am “too enthusiastic and happy for German television”…wtf?! Here’s the behind-the-scenes of one of them: https://awesomesauceasshattery.com/2015/03/19/a-shirt-dress-thrifty-thursday/)

I work hard every single day, share my talents with the world (for free) and try to make the right contacts and create opportunities for myself that will lead to a better life for my daughter and I.

One of the best ways to be “discovered” and given opportunities online is through an abundance of social media shares, unfortunately, for reasons unknown, blog readers rarely feel the need to share, pass around and spread the love for the posts they expect daily from their fave bloggers :/

As I answered Alice: My training, experience & expertise are in Fine Arts, Education & Design – check out my LinkedIn profile for all the info.
