My Refashioned Drop Waist Vest Dress

If you follow me on social media you’ll have already seen my latest retro refashioning victim:

The “before” didn’t have very many fans, fingers crossed that I managed to transform it for the better:

Waddaya think?

Here’s how I quickly created that stylin’ drop waist vest dress:

That crazy long 1980’s vest with no buttons & a weird faux pocket hankie had been sitting in my stash for ages before inspiration finally struck during my latest stash-sorting-expedition!

I snagged a few coordinating buttons & a 2m long piece of leftover bedsheet fabric that had been dyed black.

I removed the faux pocket hankie, replaced the missing buttons and stitched the bottom of the front of the vest together from the last button down to the hem.

Then evened up the raw edge of the bedsheet fabric and stitched the ends together to form a long tube.

Pinned the tube in pleats to the bottom of the vest with the raw edge of the fabric facing the inside of the vest.

And stitched them together!

et voila! A rockin’ drop waist dress!

I probably would have rocked the original vest for a bit. I loves me some 80s!!!

    1. The vest was a crazy awkward length & fit on me as is so it sat in my stash for far too long until refashionista inspiration finally whacked me over the head! 😀

  2. sieht hammermäßig aus 🙂

Ha! I can’t believe that works, but it really does! The bedsheet fabric looks a bit blue in the photo, but it makes a nice clash with the orange.

I think I would have gone straight to chopping that up for the fabric – how brave and clever to keep it whole!

ps. thanks for the stretch sewing tips – will try!

    1. I have yet to find a black fabric dye that actually colours light fabrics a true black, they always (without fail) come out more of a deep dark blue…
