My #LoveCantWait DIY

Why the hell is marriage equality still such an issue?

Every adult couple should not only have the ability to legally marry each other but also have the exact same rights as every other dynamic duo who has already gone through the insanity of a wedding (or elopement) regardless of the gender of the brides & grooms.

I’m pretty damn proud that my home and native land has had national marriage equality since 2005 and simply cannot get my head around why their closest neighbour still insists on the utter stupidity of allowing that oh-so-simple decision to be swayed by those who swear by the bigoted idiocy of a book written when the world was believed to be flat and death was an acceptable punishment for working on a Sunday.

It’s 2015, perhaps it’s time to join the 21st century?

I was so inspired by Emmy’s DIY #LoveCantWait Human Rights Campaign tee I immediately searched through my stash to create my own show of support for this incredibly important decision.

Here’s what I did:

I snagged a plain t-shirt and popped a plastic wrapped piece of cardboard inside of it then grabbed a piece of chalk & sketched out my “design”.

I busted out my DIY bleach pen and carefully traced over my chalk lines.

The colour change is pretty darn instant!

I wanted a dramatic result so I let the bleach work its decolouring magic for about an hour.

Then I chopped off the neckline, sleeve and bottom hems for a deconstructed look and laundered as usual.

et voila! A fantastic feel-good t-shirt to help spread the marriage equality love!

HOORAY! YIPEE! YEEHAW!

Finally marriage equality is law in the US!

Gay Marriage legal countries & when

If you’re dying to know my thoughts on religion this brilliant comic by The Oatmeal sums it all up perfectly.

I going to pluck up the courage to do this bleach thing one day – I seem to have a fear of bleach!

One of the problems of our world is that there is far too much happiness, love, mutual commitment? So we have to have laws to make sure it is limited? Hmm – I don’t think so. I really don’t get what these people are so afraid of.

The Oatmeal cartoon reminds me of the work of Tim Minchin – who I think is awesome!

    1. Bleaching is such a quick and easy refashioning technique ya gotta give it a go!

Unfortunately the majority of people against marriage equality live their lives based on an ancient book that preaches hate & fear 🙁

  2. Love it! The bleach pen results look great.

    1. Easy and fabulous! (what marriage equality should be!)
