A Quick Blazer Embellishment Tutorial

Need to add a quick bit of snazz to a boring blazer?

Here’s how to take those jackets from dull to delightful in minutes!

+ how to make your own lovely lace front tee

Grab a plain blazer & a coordinating necktie.

Open up the necktie seams.

Chop the necktie in half.

Arrange each half of the necktie on the bottom lapels of the blazer with the points lined up.

Pin one in place.

Sometimes I like to use different yet coordinating thread colours – does anyone else do this or am I just a weirdo?

Zigzag the top point & the outer edge together stopping just above the button.

Grab some chalk (or whatever you have on hand) & mark the fold of the lapel onto the unsewn edge of the necktie.

Stitch over the line.

Chop off the excess fabric.

Zigzag over the edges for extra strength & to prevent fraying.

Use that completed lapel as a template: Snag that other half of the necktie & lay it on top of the finished lapel with right sides facing , top points and outer edges lined up and chop it to size.

Pin your perfectly sized piece to the opposite lapel and stitch it on.

Add a wee bit more fancy to the blazer by simply re-stitching the buttons with a bright embroidery thread.

I’m thinking this would also look awesome on dude-wear too!

  2. How creative to use a tie to snazz up some lapels. I like it and it could soooo work for guys clothing too. I also love the lace tshirt front. I’ve got a stash of some stuff that I need to start working on. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Cheers Vee…I tried lace, crochet, scraps, denim & loads more but the necktie was definitely the best embellishing choice!
