Blogging: The Importance of Organization

Organizational skills are a full-time blogger’s best friend.

Juggling what to create, where to shoot, how to edit & write and when to post each groovy article is definitely a challenge that requires more than a bit of behind the scenes coordination.

Here’s how I keep everything running smoothly and on schedule:

When it comes to brainstorming, creative flow and inspiration I’m completely old school and keep track of my thoughts & ideas in an ever growing collection of scrapbooks & notepads.

My stash of sewing notions and bits for upcycling is neatly stored in pretty jars & boxes on my thrifted shelves and packed away behind my DIY curtained desk storage.

My refashioning stash is housed by category on my shelving unit as well as under my desk and work table.

Having a tidy and organized workspace makes everything soooo much more efficient & productive!

Once I’ve created and photographed a potential blog post all of the pics and info are uploaded to my lovely little laptop – where I have a place for everything and everything in its place:

My general “Blog” folder contains all of the main category folders, each category folder contains all of the sub-category folders and each sub-category folder contains the individual post folders – whew!

For example: the “2015 Tutorials” category folder has all of my on-the-go DIYs neatly organized into each sub-category folder.

When I open a sub-category folder I can easily find the individual tutorials I’m currently working on.

And each tutorial folder has the photos and info ready for editing and (eventually) uploading.

Once a post has been uploaded and published I move the folder to its corresponding category on my external hard drive + save everything to disk every few months as an extra precaution.

And just in case you missed it in my Audience Attention post, here’s how I’ve organized my basic posting schedule – which, of course, can be changed at any time too:

Monday: A mini tutorial, quick refashion or show & tell post
Tuesday: Lickety split tips, a thrifty score or a description & link to one of my guest posts elsewhere
Wednesday: A full step-by-step tutorial
Thursday: Thrifty Thursday (sustainable style & décor inspiration)
Friday: A fab DIY video

  1. You’re SO organised! I’m very good with electronic organising but abysmal with they physical organising.

    1. As my “real life” is so emotionally chaotic & stressful I find that having a completely organized “work/online life” really helps to keep me sane.

  2. Wow your organization is amazing! Fantastic inspiration. When using scraps and doing refashion fabric storage is essential!

    1. An organized & tidy workspace is essential for me to get anything done + when a creative lightning bolts hits my brain I can easily find what I need to make it 😉
