The next stop on my humble abode tour is the heart of every home:
My upcycled, vintage, handmade kitchen!
Let’s take a closer look + discover just how well some of my past decor DIYs have held up!
There are absolutely no satisfactory words to describe what the kitchen area looked (& smelled) like before we moved in.
(when you move in Berlin there is absolutely nothing in the property whatsoever except the fixtures in the bathroom and the appliance, gas & water hook-ups in the empty kitchen. Having a basic knowledge of electrics, plumbing & DIY is essential as the first few weeks in a new home are spent installing lights, appliances & window coverings + building a kitchen to make it livable enough to start unpacking and making it your own.)
’tis now a bright, cheerful & welcoming space chock full of my special brand of quirk!
Art (upcycled, vintage & handmade) – Counter (butcher’s block & an upcycled desk top) – Storage Rails (upcycled towel bars & baskets) Shelving (all upcycled) – Sink, Dishwasher & Stove (secondhand) – Vintage Pots & Serving Bowls (thrifted) – Vintage 1938 Sideboard (thrifted) – Dog (Jack the Ripper)
What do you do when there’s a weird unnecessary extra door in your kitchen?
Remove it, cover the empty space with a funky woven rug, fix up an old shelf & pop it in the door frame for some much needed storage space!
My 1950’s shelves are magnificent for displaying my jazzy jars and vintage bits and were scored for only €2!
(it’s now been over 2 years since their creation & those fun jars are still going strong!)
I refurbished that groovy vintage wash basin table & it’s fabulous as hideaway storage for those awkward large mixing bowls & pot lids. My upcycled bijou bauble stand from 2013 has now been repurposed into a funky fruit holder!
DIY potholder (me-made) – Kiddo Art (upcycled) – Mini Storage Cupboard (upcycled commode still looking great 3 years after its creation!) – Paintings (artistic gifts from Belle Monde handmade) – Kitchen Chairs (refurbished & thrifted) – Vintage Sideboard (thrifted) – 1970’s Fabric Art (an upcycled DIY) – Wall Calendar (an upcycled DIY)
Are you totally digging my DIY’d slide-y woven rug room-dividing-doorway curtain? There’ll be about more its creation during my upcoming living room tour!
