A Charming Chair DIY

A very quick & painless transformation for a couple of old folding chairs and cushions:

Here’s what I did to create a charming chair DIY:

I grabbed the grubby old folding chairs in the attic and challenged myself to transform them into marvelous outdoor munchkin seating using only what I already had lurking about the house.

I removed the wooden slats, found a couple of near-empty cans of bright spray paint & crossed my fingers that I had enough…

I did not have enough.

Ach, no bother, I simply gave the half sprayed chair frames a good splatter with some leftover green & yellow!

And then gave the wood slats a few coats as well.

Then put them back together.

Those wooden slats are a wee bit hard on the bottom so I dug through some boxes & found some worn out chair cushions.

Grabbed the remains of the fun duvet cover leftover from these groovy lounge pants.

Stacked a couple of the chair cushions together on top of the folded fabric & used them as guide to chop out the basic shape for some new covers.

Stitched the fabric together with right sides facing leaving a large gap in the back for turning & adding the cushions.

Flipped it right side out & top stitched around the outside edge for extra strength (still leaving the back open to add the cushions).

Popped the cushions inside, folded in the raw edges of the fabric and stitched it closed.

Et Voila! Friendly new cushions for the fancy new chairs!

Awesome! Now if only it would stop raining so we could use them!

They look lovely. And good work adapting the plan when the paint ran out!

    1. Thanks very much! My thrifty-make-do-sustainable lifestyle is all about finding creative solutions with what’s already on hand instead of buying new – even when it comes to paint! 😉
