A Loud & Proud Thrifty Thursday: The Gift of Thrift

Say it Loud and Say it Proud:

This year give the Gift of Thrift!

It’s time to STOP consuming & giving in to unethically produced fast fashion and START re-using, refashioning, DIY-ing & supporting sustainable style. The absolute easiest way to begin is to shop second hand, so this holiday season head on down to your local thrift store, charity shop or consignment boutique and lavish your loved ones with truly unique sustainable goodies under the tree!

Don’t think you can find groovy gifts in a thrift store?

Let’s take a wander through my local charity shop for A Loud & Proud Thrifty Thursday: The Gift of Thrift:

Clothing and accessories for everyone’s style and taste as far as the eye can see!

Sure, you may have to dig a bit to find that perfect item but wouldn’t you be searching through the shops at the mall for hours? I guarantee a hunt through racks of second hand clothing will be loads more interesting than the drudgery of the mall + you’ll still have money left in your wallet when you leave with your fabulous gifts.

You can never really go wrong with glassware, table settings or funky dish sets and the selection at the thrift shop is truly unique and incredibly varied.

A fantastic vintage ceramic coffee service or bone china tea set (or a hilarious retro face solarium) just might be the treasure to please someone on your list.

Who doesn’t love a quirky vase? Decorative and useful, hooray!

erm…and whatever this is would definitely make for a fab conversation piece for those into exclusive, one of a kind items

Cool linens are a clever little addition to your tableware gift and can even be used as groovy wrapping!

Charity shops are simply bursting with hand knit and crocheted items. You already know each one was lovingly created and as most are still in as-good-as-new condition why hesitate to give this adorably cozy gear a new home?

Books are always a welcome prezzie and can be scored for pennies!

Gems for the kiddos are hit or miss no matter where they are purchased so why break the bank on the latest fad when a thrifty collection of funky little toys & books presented in an equally funky thrifted wagon or basket will keep munchkins entertained for hours?

and of course, if your Christmas decor is lacking, the thrift shop is the place to find fantastically festive treasures that no one else will have!

Will you Give the Gift of Thrift this holiday season?

  1. Really the ceramics were a shining star! Fabulous post doll!

  2. I hope you bought that weird pipe teaset! So unusual. I’d have been tempted, even though I have never smoked and don’t drink tea. But I do love bizarre things 🙂

    1. That was one funky bit of vintage ceramic that I had to pass by…it’s actually a set for serving sipping schnapps so it’s much too small to be used for tea otherwise I probably would have snapped it up for the fab €2 price 😉

  3. I hope to promote your blog etc at my handmade gift making workshop this Saturday. I have 14 people attending to make something they will either love or hate but hey who cares as long as we promote the joys [and savings] of a thriftastic lifestyle.

    1. Fabulous! I wish more people would leap aboard the sustainable lifestyle & realize that new does not mean better – especially in the fast-need-it-all-now-for-cheap society of today!
