fake-oupage – an adorable upcycled storage box

Isn’t that vintage wooden tea set an absolute treasure?  – in flawless condition & snagged for only €1! – A perfect addition to my munchkin’s ever-growing pile of stashed bday gifts, the only thing missing was a lil’ something to cart it all around in…

et voila! A lovely little storage chest complete with a couple of nifty extra compartments…whip up one of your own with bits found around the house…

I grabbed a shoe box with a flip-up lid, a few hoarded pieces of thick cardboard, exacto knife, pretty paper, rope (or ribbon) & glue packing tape

…chopped up the thick cardboard & separated the box into compartments

…removed the cardboard, wrapped it with purty paper, covered each piece with packing tape & stuck it back in the box (my original plan was to decoupage the entire box inside & out but my almost-two-year-old had other ideas & thus the much faster packing tape ‘fake-oupage’ method was born!)

…once the box was completely fake-oupaged I punched holes in the sides & lid, fed some colourful rope through & knotted the ends creating handles & a tie-up closure

quick n’ cute!

neat n’ tidy…

and when the tea set is tiresome the chest can be used as a portable doll house!
