Tante Uschi’s Amazing Schatzkiste full of Vintage Treasures

I’ve written so many posts about the fantastic items I’ve inherited (& cleverly re-imagined) from Great Auntie Uschi that I thought it was time to introduce the fabulous woman herself:

Wasn’t she a stunner?

Tante Uschi was not only incredibly stylish but also extremely kind hearted and generous. She delighted in seeing all of the offbeat creations I came up with from what she called her “alter Krimskrams” (old rubbish), our favourite heirloom to be passed down?

Tante Uschi's Amazing Schatzkiste full of Vintage TreasuresThis glorious hand carved African Schatzkiste (treasure chest) – phenomenal! And the best part? It was full of “alter Krimskrams”!

Let’s take a look inside Tante Uschi’s Amazing Schatzkiste full of Vintage Treasures:

The chest was absolutely bursting with handcrafted linens from the 1940’s, 50’s & 60’s.

Belts & accessories from the 60’s & 70’s

Take a peek at what I did with the two belts on the left here:

and how I saved the broken one on the right here:

How funkadelic is this bit of awesomeness to wear with a t-shirt?

(I really must try some style experimenting with that fab vintage collar & tie)

Simply sumptuous bags from the 40’s & 50’s:

And a bunch of absolutely exquisite vintage dresses:

Chopping the bottom and using it to create some groovy sleeves made this dress a wardrobe fave!

That orange lace beauty needed a bit of love – see what I did here.

That 1970’s housecoat looks fab after my no-sew refashion:

A few required some major love & attention:

This dress was quite a bit too big for me but as it was from Tante Uschi I absolutely had to make it wearable:

I was terrified to even attempt the reconstruction of this hand-beaded 1940’s evening dress but it was just too sensational not to:

This phenomenal vintage dress and jacket set was hiding at the bottom of the treasure chest:

Measuring 150cm from shoulder seam to hem, it appears to have been originally created for a gorgeous glamazon – as I’m 156cm tall (in shoes) some rather drastic refashioning was in order!

This one was a simple refashion with a lovely result:
